Sannyasin started out as a bare hull kit
formed at the Westsail factory in North
Carolina in 1975. Her original owner
spent the next 13 years building her out
as a traditional gaff-rigged cutter
with the intent on one day sailing her
around the world (don't we all have that
dream?)
She has a hollow, deck-stepped mast
made out of Sitka spruce. The topmast
is made out of fir.
Her sailplan includes 5 sails total
of which the Main, Staysail and Yankee
Jib are the working sails. There is
also a topsail (unrigged currently)
and a Flying Jib which is used to
offset the pull of the topsail. There
are also a storm trisail and storm
staysail aboard.
